Beginner and advanced freediving courses in Dahab, Egypt — where warm, calm water makes learning easier.
It's not. It's about teaching your nervous system that stillness is safe. About learning to be calm — not just still. The divers who progress fastest aren't the most athletic. They're the ones who learn to stop fighting and start listening to their body. That's exactly what we teach at The Gate Freediving — in water so warm and clear, your body relaxes before you even take your first breath hold.
Every diver begins somewhere. Choose the right entry point for you.
Try it before you commit. A half-day experience in the pool — no experience needed. The perfect first step into the underwater world.
Your first full certification. Learn breath control, safety, and equalisation from scratch. AIDA 2 certified upon completion.
Push deeper. Refine your technique, extend breath holds, and dive the Blue Hole. AIDA 3 certified upon completion.
Sessions at both Dahab dive sites, tailored to your level. Solo or small group.
A lot of certified freedivers come to Dahab purely to train. No course, no certification — just consistent sessions in world-class water with a coach who knows the sites. These are the divers who come back every year. Who push their personal bests not by trying harder, but by training smarter.
Dedicated equalisation coaching with a SHARE-certified EQ coach — dry training online before you arrive, and in-person sessions in Dahab. Launching soon.
Join the waitlist →Cold, dark water makes learning harder. Your nervous system works against you before you even start. Dahab is different. Average of 26°C water. Around 30+ meters of visibility. No or really small current, little to no waves. Just stillness. When the environment is this calm, your body follows. Students here progress faster — not because they try harder, but because the conditions let them relax. And because we're based inside The Gate hotel, you can sleep, eat, and dive from one place.
"I came in nervous about breath holding. By day two I was relaxed at 15 meters. The instructors never pushed — they just made it feel safe."★★★★★ — Luuk Dekker, Netherlands — Beginner Course
The underwater world that makes Dahab extraordinary is not guaranteed. Read about what we do to keep it extraordinary.
We are in the process of joining a global environmental giving programme. More details soon.
We organise regular clean-ups in and around Dahab. Students are always welcome to join.
All course materials are digital. No printed handouts, no single-use plastic — ever.
Where possible we move gear by bike rather than by car. Sometimes we need the car — a trip to the Blue Hole for example. But we keep it to a minimum.
Freediving is just one part of being here. Dahab and the Sinai have more to offer.
Dinner in the Sinai desert with the Bedouin people. A campfire, the best food, plenty of tea — and no one else around.
The Red Sea at night is a different world. Lionfish hunting, Spanish dancers, creatures you'll never see during the day. Torch included.
Egypt's most spectacular marine park, 1 hour from Dahab. Barracuda, turtles, rays, walls of reef. Transport and lunch included.
Same diving, but you sleep in a tent on the beach and wake up to an early morning dive. Dinner, breakfast, lunch and transport included.
Full retreat packages — accommodation, pool, daily training, and meals — for groups of all levels. Freediving clubs, yoga retreats, corporate groups. We take over the entire hotel. Your group gets a private, focused experience from arrival to departure.
We're two Dutch friends who came to Dahab for scuba diving and never really left. Six years later, we've built The Gate Freediving together with Bassem. We teach because we believe anyone can learn to be calm underwater. And because this reef deserves to still be here for the next generation. Our team speaks Dutch, English, Spanish and Arabic. Whoever you are, you'll feel at home.
No experience needed. Our introduction dive is a half-day in the pool — the easiest way to find out if freediving is for you.
